Sydney Trophies and Engraving
The word trophy or trophies is believed to have been in the English language since the mid 1500’s it comes from the French word ‘trophee’ which means ‘prize of war’. Prior to this the Greeks also used the word ‘tropaion’ which comes from the verb ‘trope’ meaning ‘to rout’ this then morphed into the English term ‘trophy’.
Sydney has a rich history of sporting tradition and was the focal point of sport in the early stages of the Australia’s colonisation. When the first fleet arrived in Sydney from England, many of the soldiers, officers and convicts were already well versed in the sporting traditions of the British Empire. Australia and Sydney, in particular, have plenty of sports trophies to flaunt from over the years.
